Junior potters!

Last month we visited the Art Workshop of the Municipality of Rethymno. We wanted to learn all the secrets of clay at first hand. Most of all, we wanted to learn about vessels and how the ancient Greeks painted them with all those beautiful images.
Mrs Frosso welcomed as cheerfully and explained everything to us!

   First we make a draft!

   We cut the border...

   ...decorate it with geometrical shapes...

   Ready!

   We begin painting!

   We use motifs...

  Beautiful, isn't it?

   ...with warriors, too!

   Ready for the furnace!

15 days later the vessels arrived at school!

   We can see our patterns!

   A real piece of artwork!

Do you know all the truth about tomatoes?

WE know EVERYTHING about tomatoes! First off, we know they are fruit and not vegetables! Didn't you know? Read this: http://10dim-tsesmes-en.blogspot.gr/2012/02/our-salad-days.html
Now we know how tomatoes took their red colour! Read the story as it was written by the D'2 class student, Nektaria Kiose.

"Once upon a time there was a tomato. She thought it would be nice to go to the sea and she did. She sat a little till she had set up the umbrella and taken off her clothes. She finally got into the sea and swam. After a short while she got out, ate and after some time she got in again. Later she got out, took out her mobile phone, put on her earphones and lay down. She put on her sunglasses and thought of sleeping a bit! But that "bit" turned into a full four hours! How could she have imagined when she lay down that she had put on everything except of the most important: her sunscreen!!!
When she realised, she saw she had messed up. And so she had got sunburn. She had turned all red! Everybody loved her new look since then!
All the tomatoes of the world decided to imitate that look and since then all the tomatoes of the world turned red!"

The Tree of Education

I don't know if we should post older projects or, maybe, if we should put our efforts into filling our websail with new ones! Since it is still so early in the schoolyear, and we are still at the planning and organising stageand since the older ones are made from kids for kids, framed with love, we believe that they can  constitute the driving force for the future activities...
"The Tree of Education", inspired by Action Aid's Global Week for Education "The Big Read" was made by the pupils of the 4th Grade (2008-2009).
Education is a "living" organism, a "tree" that needs strong roots and a strong trunk to bear fruit; it also needs our love and care to be protected by aspiring "saws" which want to hurt it...

A window to the...universe!

A picture of the 4th grade students (2008-2009), under the guidance of Mrs. Maria. I'm posting it because this is how I imagine our blog-a window to the universe...
